Best bra fit - how to measure

To measure for your best bra fit, you need to know the band's width and cup size.  Using a seamstress measuring tape...

Measure your breast size

Measure around the fullest part of your bust.  Keep the measuring tape level and do not pull tightly around the breasts.

Write the measurement here.  ______________ inches

Measure  your band size

Wear a non-padded bra to measure.  Measure around the rib cage, directly under the bust.  Do not pull tape tightly.

Write the measurement here  ________________ inches.

Calculate your cup size by subtracting the  band size from the cup size

Cup size (inches)    __________

* Band size (inches)__________

Difference  (inches) __________

Use the "Difference" total to determine the cup size.

Difference 1 inch - A cup

Difference 2 inches - B cup

Difference 3 inches - C cup

Difference 4 inches - D cup

Difference 5 inches - DD cup

Difference 6 inches - DDD cup

When shopping for a bra, use the * "Band size" from above for width; use the cup size you calculated under "Difference Total" for your cup size.

Bra Fitting Secrets

Because bra bands stretch over time, purchase a bra using the first set of hooks (loosest).  As time passes, you can then tighten the band by moving to the next set of hooks.

Straps should not fall.  If you find this is a problem, you may want to opt for a wider padded or Y-shape strap.

If your breast are heavy, purchase a bra with padded , wide straps - stay away from thin straps.

The center front of your bra should rest lightly on the center of the chest.

If you have found a bra you really like, note the make, model, and bra size and shop for another one like it online.  It will save you a trip to the store.

A properly fitted bra will not leave marks on your skin and the breast should stay in place, not roll out.

If you are a plus size woman, go for a wider band to prevent rollover.
