Eyeshadow Tips
In this eyeshadow tips section, we've included a helpful - yet simple- eyeshadow color guide, we help you get that natural eye look, and share my favorite tip on how to achieve a sheer and even application when using dark pigmented eyeshadows.
Every artist has something they use for inspiration and makeup artists are no different. For a kaleidiscope of natural color inspiration, you don't need to look any further than the iris of your own eyes!
Simple Eyeshadow Color Guide
-
Baby Blue Eyes: Experiment with orange undertone colors such as warm browns, bronze, and copper.
-
Delicious Green Eyes: Try taupes, plums and violets.
-
Chameleon Hazel Eyes: Try colors with yellow undertones such as deep greens, golds and lavenders.
-
For Earthy Brown Eyes: All colors look great on you. Experiment with grays, blues, purples and pinks.
Hint: When you look closely at your eye color you will notice several colors. Play off those colors when choosing eyeshadow.

Eyeshadow makeup for a natural Look
With makeup, the Natural look is in. Get that "Natural Look" you desire by using a matte finish eyeshadow colors.
Use midtone brown color for the lid and crease area of the eye, and then highlight with a cream matte eyeshadow beneath the brow.
Soft, Even and Sheer Mineral Eyeshadow (one of my favorite tips)
For soft, even and sheer eyeshadow, try these 4 simple steps.
- Dab dry eyeshadow on your brush
- Wipe your brush back and forth on a tissue. This removes a lot of the color, but that's ok - this is where the magic happens.
- Using your brush, brush color onto the lids.
- Reload the brush if you need more color
For awesome eyes use your iris as inspiration
Accentuate the beautiful colors in the iris of your eyes, instead of the clothing you wear for awesome eyes.
Eye color trivia: Colors in the iris of your eyes are caused by melanin, microscopic pigment cells that are as unique as your fingerprint.
Eyeshadow brushes
- Use a soft eyeshadow brush, instead of a sponge applicator when applying eyeshadow to the lids and under the brow.
- Use an eye crease brush for the crease of the eye.
- Have several brushes available to avoid mixing colors. Colors loose their vibrancy when mixed together.
Soft, beautiful eyes
For soft and beautiful eyes, always use light strokes with your brush, a small amount of eyeshadow and blend the edges of your eyeshadow colors. You can always add more eyeshadow if needed, but overloading the brush can ruin the soft and sexy affect.
When using dark eyeshadow...
Use light touch when applying dark eyeshadow colors such as navy blue, black, and charcoal grey. It is very easy to apply too much. These colors should be worn sheer for daytime use.
Eye Primer for longer lasting eyeshadow
Do you have a problem with eyeshadow that just won't stay on? If yes, try using eye primer on the eyelids, crease and just below the brow for longer lasting eyeshadow. Allow the primer to dry completely before applying your eyeshadow.
