Makeup for swollen or puffy eyes
When eyes are swollen or puffy, makeup should be applied differently.  If eyeshadow is applied incorrectly or is frosted, the puffiness will be accentuated.  You can still wear makeup, but it should be tweeked a bit and this is how...

Sheer coverage - not heavy
Avoid frosted and heavy eyeshadows on the eyes.  If you want color, dab eyeshadow (stay away from frosted or metalic eyeshadow) on a brush, wipe the brush with tissue and apply lightly. The color should be sheer.

Eyeshadow
Use an eye primer on the upper lid to "fix" or set your eyeshadow. Eye primer will help decrease the transfer of your eyeshadow to your lashes, plus your eyeshadow will last longer.
  1. Try a light color, such as cream, on the eye lid.
  2. Try a subtle matte brown eyeshadow on the crease of the eye and upwards to just below the brow bone.
  3. Leave the area just below the brow naked.

Eyeliner
Instead of using eyeliner over the entire upper eye-lash root line, which can magnify eye puffiness, apply eyeliner only to the outer one-fifth of the root-line or;

If your eyes are very puffy, don't wear eyeliner. It most likely will make your eyes look even more distorted.

Eyelashes
  1. Curl your lashes - this helps to keep them off the swollen area.
  2. Use water-proof mascara on your lashes.  This should prevent tiny mascara dots on your upper eye area.
