Moisturizing Different Skin Types
Why Moisturize?
For skin to be healthy, it needs moisture.
Using the analogy of a grape to explain our point;  A grape requires moisture to stay plump, without it, it shrinks, wrinkles and becomes a raisen.  While we won't become a raisen, the skin does react much the same way as a grape. Without moisture, our skin develops fine lines and wrinkles.
What is the Best Way to Hydrate the Skin from the inside?
The best way to hydrate the skin from the inside is to eat  a well balanced diet and drink adequate amounts of liquids daily.

What's the best way to hydrate the skin from the outside?
Moisturize! Moisturizers are designed to deliver and lock moisture into the skin. They work best if applied within 2 minutes of washing.
So.... no matter what your age, make it part of your daily routine to moisturize immediately after washing.

Moisturizing Oily Skin
  • Oily skin is shiny and prone to blemishes.  It needs moisture, but not more oil.
  • Try an oil control lotion to hydrate and moisturize. Oil control lotions absorb excess oil on the face for several hours.
  • If you are unable to purchase an oil control lotion, use a lightweight, non-comedogenic (won't clog pores) water-based moisturizer to hydrate the skin.
Moisturizing Normal Skin
Normal skin is considered neither too dry nor too oily.  It is the skin we all dream about.
Avoid intense moisturizers.  They can be too heavy for your skin type. Instead try lightweight water-based moisturizers.

Moisturizing Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin is susceptible to skin irritations; itching, redness, and/or rashes.  When shopping for moisturizers, look for products that are fragrance free, contain no dyes, and indicate they are formulated for sensitive skin. Fragrances and dyes are known irritants.
Moisturizing Dry Skin
Dry skin may look red, feel rough, flake, peel, itch, and wrinkle due to lack of moisture.
Immediately after cleansing, remove excess water by patting, not rubbing the skin.  Rubbing irritates the skin and removes essential oils.
Use an intense moisturizer on the face within 2 minutes of washing. This allows you to get the maximum benefits of the moisturizer.
Intense moisturizers are heavier and more effective at retaining moisture and hydrating dry skin.
Unless your skin is very dry, avoid intense moisturizers during the day.  If your skin type is normal, choose an oil-free moisturizer for the day, and an intense moisturizer at bedtime.
