My Favorite Makeup Brushes
Makeup brushes for makeup techniques
There are many makeup
techniques taught throughout Makeup and Beyond and most have a common thread ...
makeup brushes. Below is a list of my favorite makeup brushes.
Powder Brush - I use a powder brush to blend loose powder makeup over my face, neck, ears, and chest area. It is an excellent makeup brush for eliminating makeup lines.
Foundation Brush - When using liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer, I find a makeup foundation brush works well to smooth and evenly distribute the product over my face and neck. A foundation brush is a must have to reach into areas around the nose, and above and below the lips.
Blush Brush - An excellent tool for sculpting the cheek, and of course applying powder blush.
Hint: Select a blush brush larger than most brushes
that are included with blush compacts. An ideal cheek brush is made of natural
bristles, not synthetic, is soft, but not fluffy, is compact, but not
stiff, and the bristle’s top should be dome shaped. The bristles
should move slightly when blown.
Eye Definer Brush - When applying wet eyeliner, an eye definer brush is a necessity. It is used to apply wet eyeliner
above and below the root line of the lashes.
Smudge Brush - A smudge brush is not
actually a makeup "brush" at all. It is a sponge or rubber tipped applicator
that is used to smooth and blend eyeliner after it has been applied. Smudge
brushes are a must have tool for creating the smoky-eye look.
Eye Contour/Crease
Brush - A great makeup brush for adding
color to the crease of the eyelid. Use a windshield wiper approach with this makeup brush to get the color down into the crease.
Eyeshadow Brush - A makeup brush that is indispensable for applying eyeshadow. If you are still using a sponge applicator that came with your eyeshadow you'll have better results with an eyeshadow brush. I keep a minimum of five eyeshadow makeup brushes in my
makeup case at all times. One for each color.
Eye Lash and
Eyebrow Brush and/or Comb - Often these are found as a dual-ended makeup tool, with a brush on one end and a comb on the
other. The multi-uses for this makeup tool are:
- Sweep
the brow hairs back and forth to fluff and clean with the brush side.
- Shape the brows with the comb.
- After
applying eyebrow liner, brush the brows to blend in any pencil marks.
- Use the brush side to apply gel to the brows; and then the comb side to separate and
shape them.
- Use
the comb side to remove mascara
lumps, and to separate the lashes.
Bronzer Brush - The secret to applying bronzers is in this makeup brush. After foundation has been applied, but before all other makeup is applied, load your makeup brush with bronzer and then lightly brushed it over your foundation to add a "healthy glow".
Lip Brush - When lipstick is applied with just the tube itself, there's not a lot of control. If a lipstick brush is used instead, those tiny creases in the lips can be filled in with color much better, and the shape of the lips more closely followed.
Concealer Brush - Allows for more control of
where you want the product applied, and is advantageous for feathering around the edges.
