HOME       EYES       Swollen Eyes, Puffy Eyes

Puffy eyes, dark circles, swollen eyes, or bags under the eyes....

Puffy Eyes
The skin around the eyes is very thin and may swell due to many different factors. Puffy eyes can be caused by allergies (it could be Fido sleeping next to you), certain medications, hormones, excessive salt intake, lack of sleep, alcohol consumption, medical eye conditions, heredity, thyroid or kidney conditions, fluid retention and so forth.

Dark Circles

Dark circles under the eyes can be the result of nasal congestion causing veins that normally drain from the eye area to the nose to widen and darken.
If you suspect an underlying medical reason for eye puffiness or dark circles under the eye, consult with your medical professional.

Tips to reduce swollen or puffy eyes

  • Try sleeping with your head propped up on two pillows to help reduce fluid from accumulating near the eyes.
  • Eliminate alcohol from your diet.
  • You could be allergic to your feather pillow.  Switch pillows for a while.
  • Get 7 to 8 hours sleep a night.
  • Splash cold water on your face.
  • Try using slices of cucumbers, a cold eye mask, or cold, moistened tea bags on your eyes for five minutes.
  • If time is not a luxury, apply a soothing eye gel.  For dark circles and under eye puffiness, dab on a daily eye revitalizer before applying your makeup.  Repeat usage may take care of your problem.
  • Drink plenty of water to wash toxins from your body.
Frozen tea bags for puffy eyes...
Place wet tea bags in the freezer so they are ready for use at any time.  Remember to wrap any frozen item in cloth or a paper towel before placing it on your skin to prevent skin damage.
Thank you Natalie for sharing your great tea bag secret for puffy eyes!

Nutrient rich eye creams
Some nutrients fight free radicals that break down collagen.  As collagen breaks down, wrinkles develop.

Many eye creams available today do more than just moisturize; the also provide antioxident protection for the delicate eye area. The most popular combination of vitamins used are A, C and E that do more than just moisturize the skin; they also deliver vital nutrients to fight against premature aging.

Tea and ice eye refresher
  1. Brew 1 Chamomile tea bag in 1/2 cup water.  Cool the tea.
  2. Dip a cotton wipe or cotton ball into the cool tea.  Wring most of the tea out, before wiping your eyes.
  3. Place a few ice cubes into a plastic bag and wrap with a thin cloth.
  4. Allow wrapped ice bag to rest on the eyes for a minute or two.
Thank you Susie for writing to us about your tea and ice eye refresher tip!
